February 2021 Newsletter

Tim Marvel, CSP
2020 – 2021 NSA NT President

A Note from Your President

Engage with those

around you.

The 2nd “I” in Intentional is for Engage. I know, I know engage starts with an “E”, but it was too important to not make an exception. Since we are going to be intentional this year, the challenge is to be the person in the zoom room to engage with new people, new activities, new habits, and maybe a new mindset.

What does it look like, it could be at the Virtual Monthly Chapter Meeting reaching out to a new face? It could be a Learning Lab this month, you are home, and it is a good topic? It could be venturing out on the internet to a Story Telling Meeting, or something personal. Do not limit your thoughts to these suggestions, your possibilities are endless.

What have you gained by being “Intentional” this year? Share your results from being intentional with a Board Member, or post to our Facebook or LinkedIn page. Your words will be the encouragement someone else is looking for.

The Open House was a great success, thank you all for your participation!

Yes, it happened, we have marked January 2021 off the calendar, where did it go? As we survey the coming months, we see Virtual Meetings at least through March. We will keep you all in the loop as we continue to move through the calendar. My promise is to keep your health and safety first.

Please plan to join us as we prepare to remember our past NSA NT Presidents at our February Chapter Meeting. Yes, it will be different, and yes, it will be difficult to give these Past Presidents the respect they deserve. The biggest honor we can give is our participation and attendance.

I would encourage you to continue to review the calendar on Speaker.org, we are still adding additional current, relevant opportunities for you to engage and grow.

Thank you, “NSA NT Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and all the volunteers that have given so much this year”.

On a personal note, to everyone who reached out when my father passed. It was comforting to know you were there. Thank you.

How did you intentionally move forward this month?

VIRTUAL
Chapter Meeting with Barry Banther, CSP, CPAE

How do you build a profitable and sustainable
speaking business year over year?

Barry Banther, CSP, CPAE

What are the business fundamentals that you cannot ignore?

Where is the path for increasing revenue while maintaining long term clients?

Since 1994 Barry Banther has been asking these questions and the answers have resulted in his speaking business growing every year for over 25 years.

He will share with us the three core competencies, and how to develop them, to result in a sustainable and profitable path for your speaking career.

He will also provide a copy of his Client Services Grid that has been a popular break out session at Winter Workshops, CSP/CPAE Summits, and Influence.

NSA NT Community Outreach

Our efforts will be supporting the NSA Foundation for February.
www.NSAFoundation.org

NSA North Texas has made a concerted effort to support the NSA Foundation. Did you know our chapter has had numerous volunteers including performers, committee members, and event volunteers? Count Christine Cashen, Gary Rifkin, Alex Ramsey, and Dianna BOOHER as those who have served. NSA NT members have also served in leadership roles including the past national chair, Randy Pennington, the current chair, Jim Pancero, and current Board of Trustees member, Linda Swindling.

In addition to the emergency funds for health and national disasters, the Foundation also provides community grants and scholarships.

Non-profit organizations that NSA members support like Summer Santa and Metrocrest Services have received grants from the Foundation. NSA NT has had at least four college and/or graduate students related to our chapter receive scholarships.

AND…
A large portion of the money raised in our chapter’s auctions and fundraisers go towards sending our chapter members to NSA Foundation events like dinners and educational seminars. (A win-win-win for your NSA Foundation, our NSA NT Chapter, and our members!)

What is the NSA Foundation?

The NSA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the National Speakers Association and serves to help those members and families of our NSA Community, as well as those in need in our larger global community. It is devoted to upholding the spirit of serving, sharing, and supporting embodied by our founder Cavett Robert, CSP, CPAE. The Foundation is able to act on behalf of our members to do something that comes naturally in the speaking profession – helping others.

What does it do?

  • The Foundation serves members and the public through:
  • Financial help (PSBF) for NSA members who have suffered either personal health or natural disaster emergencies;
  • Scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in public speaking;
  • Grants (Art Berg) to help charitable organizations communicate through technology; and
  • Grants to support a charity each year in the city of our annual Convention.
