2020 – 2021 NSA NT President

A Note from Your President

I just experienced one of the best years of my life. Yep, I just said it. Maybe not what you expected to hear considering how the past year looked.

· Losing my father on Jan 2nd was difficult.
· The Presidential Election sure caused a stir well into Feb 2021.
· SNOWVID 2021 seemed to pile on and erase the thoughts that we were past 2020.
· COVID played games with our health, our schedules, our minds, and, for many, our paychecks.

But maybe, just maybe, we can look at things a little differently after our conversation.

Remember, “What you focus on expands” is a true statement.

Here are a few significant events from my journal.

  1. I was fortunate enough to be able to reinvent my career. My partner and I are well into our plans of creating a new software company. We have begun launching several automotive dealerships in Texas and are very excited about the possibilities ahead.
  2. As part of our real estate team led by my wife, Rockie, we exceeded our 2020 goal. It didn’t come easy and it took focused attention and persistence but we finally nailed it.
  3. Lastly, serving as your NSA NT Board President and helping support our Board of Directors and members was an honor. We set and exceeded many of our goals in spite of some interesting times, to say the least.

So why does this all add up to being one of the best years of my life? We learned so much and gained much knowledge. How much more do you think we can do now?

For me, this year was about people. We needed each other more than at any other time in history. During COVID, our Past Presidents initiated a call campaign touching base with our members to make sure everyone was doing ok. Your Board of Directors reached out again after the unexpected freeze in March. Your leaders reached out 4 times this year checking in on you.

The team created many NSA activities to keep everyone engaged from first-time visitors to Hall of Famers. All you had to do was register and sign in (you could have been in your PJ’s). We even hosted an International Speaker Forum with attendees from around the world.

Many of us were/are not technology nerds, some had never used Zoom. Today Zoom is a household name, minimum required technology for Professional Speakers. How many people set up home studios and invested in good microphones, lighting, cameras, and other technology? Many of you got comfortable in front of the camera and created your own energy.

We had to figure out how to work around or with our pets, the lawn guys, mowers, weed eaters, and loud blowers but we figured it out and we moved forward.

We were intentional!

I hope you found a way to move forward in your business. Were you intentional? What knowledge did you pick up this year that will propel you forward? I desire is you will look back and remember what 2020 was and see it was a year of connection and learning and my hope is that NSA NT was a big part of that.

From the bottom of my heart, a big THANK YOU to each of you for being a part of NSA NT 2020-2021. And a special thanks to all the Volunteers, Chairs, and the Board of Directors. It has been an honor to serve as your President. See you in the hall!

It is time to move forward. Renew your membership and support our incoming Leadership Team.

Welcome back incoming President Stu Schlackman CSP!

YOUR BRAIN POST-COVID: What Neuroscience Has To Say About That!

Your brain has changed this past year. I have to tell you that right off! Why? Because your brain is different from what it was one year ago. You probably know this on some intuitive level, but you might not necessarily know why. There’s a lot going on.

Your audiences’ brains have changed, as well. Although not necessarily well! I have to tell you because it will impact how effectively you can present in the future, either in person or remotely. Neuroscience, brain imaging, and behavioral science have given us insights into what is going on. My task will be to translate that into specific things you can do as a member (or guest) of the NSA North Texas Chapter!

So, come along as we explore some key principles, backed by science, that will increase your ability to understand how the brain works and how it influences how your audiences learn, what they learn, and even how they can un-learn.
