A Note from Your President

Imagine your career moving forward exactly as you hoped and dreamed it would. What would it look like? What would you be doing? What would be next? Do you know the answers to those questions with crystal clear clarity? As a member of NSA North Texas, you have decided to enhance your speaking business, simply by attending our events to gain insights and ideas from our monthly speakers, labs, and our Chapter colleagues. There is no one or perfect way to create your success – there are thousands of ways. The tricky part is figuring out which of those best suits you?

Have you ever stopped to take a look around the room at one of our monthly meetings? We are a wild, wonderful and crazy group of Very Different People (VDPs)! Each of us decided to take a chance, imagine running our own business, and creating a career which most people would be terrified to attempt (professional speaking). We come from many walks of life, backgrounds, experiences and expertise. Yet, we VDPs have much in common in terms of our burning desire to share a message.

Our 2019-2020 NSA Chapter year is chock full of opportunities for you to determine your path. Last month, Simon T. Bailey shared insights from his professional and personal experiences in carving out his path – along with the ups and downs that come from decisions we make at every turn. He got a lot of “Amens” when he noted a mentor advising him that our best selves often arrive when we are in our sixties! In September, W Mitchell will open your minds in a completely different way. You Do Not want to miss him! These two CSPs, CPAEs are highly talented and successful speakers, and wonderful human beings, whose paths to success could not have been more different.

My goal for this year is to expose all of us to numerous perspectives, different approaches, and highly engaging speakers who will help each of us answer those first three questions above. Vivacious Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are vital to the existence of our chapter. We would love for you to help our programming department and/or greet people when they arrive at our Saturday meetings. One of our founding members, the late Joe Charbonneau, who our Academy is named after said, “You have to give, give, give, to get, get, get.”  I’ll explain from my own experience the importance of giving as it relates to our chapter at our next meeting. HEADS UP!

In 2014-2015, NSA-NT administered a survey to collect specific data to improve our chapter. We used the data with great success. In October, we will be sending out a new survey to all event attendees from the past three years (2016-present) to get valuable input to help us continue to grow and improve.

Your input is crucial to making us better. Imagine the possibilities!

We will be examining:

• Membership value
• Future programing
• Member involvement
• Meeting demographics

Key dates:

• October 7 – Email survey sent
• November 11 – Survey collection closed
• January 6 – Results to be released
