A Note from Your President

Educate Yourself

November is a time of giving and thankfulness. Many find great joy in giving to others, sharing, connecting, and creating smiles.

As you begin this holiday season thinking about all the wonderful gifts you will share with your family, friends, and loved ones, please don’t forget to take time and commit to investing in yourself. The “E” in intentional is for “Educate Yourself.”

Part of educating yourself is reviewing where you have been. We can be critical of ourselves and feel stuck or even failing. This year has been a tremendous year of growth, change, and challenge for most of us. How do you review your successes? For some, the question might be how do you remember those successes?

Most successes come from the small steps; they could seem unmeasurable. How do you measure small steps? What works for me is a daily success journal. It could look like a to-do list, or to-done as Stu might call it. It is a list of what has been accomplished that day. Each day highlights the thing that most moved you forward toward your goals. The great Jim Rhon said, “the most important project you could invest in is yourself.”

We continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 trends for upcoming events. All November events will be held virtually. We welcome Elizabeth Jeffries Tweed CSP/CPAE, and Stephen Tweed CSP to our November Chapter Meeting as they share “How to build a long-term Sustainable Speaking Career”.

Your Board and Leadership team continue working to provide innovative events keeping your safety as a priority. We are excited to announce our “Virtual Holiday Event and Online Auction”. We knew we needed something special, and it will be! Details coming soon!

We understand keeping up with the many events has been a challenge at times. Coming soon you will be able to access the calendar of coming events by month. It will be accessible from speaker.org and dates for upcoming events will be posted for the entire year (excluding Special Events).

Starting November 1st through January 30th (coinciding with Open House) we will offer a Holiday Savings as follows; Professional Dues (including AAP) $275, and Candidates (including AAP) $325.

Rockie and I wish you all safe travels as we all move about the country taking time to visit family, friends, and loved ones around the globe. Be safe and smart and hope to see you soon.

How did you intentionally move forward this month?

What If This Was Your Day?

Imagine waking up in the morning and opening your calendar to find at least 200 contacts for future speaking opportunities. No more random Google searches. Simply 200 key contacts per month, right there at your fingertips each month.

So, if you have tried all the other speaker bureaus, boards, and event lists and have signed up for multiple monthly memberships and are paying commissions to be profiled on countless speaker listings and speaker matching services…and are getting few results. Why not try something new and check out the ClubCalendar and get direct access and take control of your own bookings?

If you would like to see the inside of the ClubCalendar and how it works you can visit our site at Theclubcalendar.net and click on resources where you will find tutorial videos, along with other speaking resources you can review.

The ClubCalendar is a monthly calendar of 200 plus events looking to hire speakers and fill their agendas, all the events are in the calendar when they will be planning their future events agendas and looking to hire speakers. All the events will be taking place in the future from 10 to 13 months from when they appear in the calendar and all have budgets. Each event will have more than one opportunity as they will be looking for keynotes, breakouts, workshops, and general session speakers.

The Calendar events have been highly curated and QC’d for the subscribers.

How to Build a Long Term, Sustainable Speaking Career!

Did the Covid Crisis in March of 2020 decimate your speaking business? Was the Financial Crash of 2008 a significant stressor for you? When the Towers came down on 9/11, were you left with multiple speaking cancelations?

Over the past 40 years there have been five major economic upheavals that have deeply affected the business of professional speaking. If you want to learn how to build, stay, thrive, have financial freedom, have fun and make an eternal difference with your audiences and clients, you won’t want to miss this high-impact discussion with two of NSA’s legends who have weathered all five economic upheavals. With experience of nearly 40 years each, Elizabeth and Stephen will share their secrets, systems and stories of how you, too, can build a long term, sustainable speaking career and enjoy the journey.

During this interactive presentation, you will explore:

  • Five Observations of speakers who have successfully navigated financial crises
  • The Four Phases of a Long-term Speaking Career
  • The Seven Ms of Mastering our Profession
  • The Five Phases of Your Financial Life

NSA NT Community Outreach

November we honor the Spirit of NSA. November 14 is the birthday of one of NSA’s most beloved leaders and founder, Cavett Robert. During the week of Cavett’s birthday, we offer help and/or personal services to other speakers to help them build a bigger pie. If you have been helped by an NSA North Texas member or feel someone is your “Cavett”, would you let us know by posting on our Facebook page with #MyCavett?

https://www.nsaspeaker.org/about/spirit-of-cavett/

Also, please consider making a donation this month to the organization that helps our members when they need it most, the www.NSAFoundation.org

Many of our NSA North Texas members have volunteered for leadership roles through the years. The NSA Foundation’s current chair is Jim Pancero. Randy Pennington is a past-chair. Current Foundation Board of Trustees include Linda Swindling and Marilyn Sherman. (Fun fact, past NSA president and one of this month’s speakers, Stephen Tweed, is also a former NSA Foundation Chair.)

December Spotlight is Metrocrest Services. Get those Santa Hats and Sweaters ready. Through the years, many members have helped the working poor as they shop for holiday gifts. This year we will be volunteering again as Santa’s Helpers. Reserve the date of December 19. We will give you the exact time, donation needs, and ask you to sign up at our November meeting.

Finally, thank you for your support of and donations to Summer Santa for NSA North Texas’ September and October non-profit spotlight! www.SummerSanta.org

Similar to the efforts of National Speakers Foundation, our chapter strives to give back to the local community. The organizations chosen for help are ones in which at least one of our members actively donates time and efforts.

If you would like to nominate your local, non-profit organization to be recognized by the Community Outreach Committee of NSA/North Texas, please email Linda Swindling.

Positive Posts

As we become more and more proficient with virtual meetings, here are 7 friendly reminders when preparing for an engaging, educational and entertaining presentation:

  1. Use one idea – shorter is sweeter; keep participants excited with your content
  2. Listen to your voice…use inflection; a whisper can have a profound effect
  3. Practice, practice, practice before going live
  4. Killer titles and creating relevant, actionable takeaways mean engagement
  5. Be sure you have the right technology; include the software platform in your contract
  6. Keep your energy high but don’t go over the top
  7. Being conversational IS the killer app in a virtual presentation
