A Note from Your President

August 2020: The “I” in Intentional is Initiate your own connectionsLast year NSA NT conducted a Chapter-wide strategic survey covering all aspects of the business, geographic and demographics of our chapter. For several months we reached out to you and begged for feedback. Do you remember the “bacon protest”? It was peaceful. Or, do you remember the drawing for one year of membership dues. Bruce Arfsten does, because he won, and we paid for his dues for this year.

Many of the comments from the survey highlighted the need to provide more networking time and the opportunity to connect better. We have given this a great deal of thought. Our initial thought was to suggest that the chapter members be more intentional and come earlier to the meetings.  Knowing that was not the answer many of our members were looking for, we continued to inquire to more members how we might be able to be more intentional and incorporate better connectivity into our meetings. Here are some of the initiatives we elected to create based on the feedback we compiled.

  1. During the Chapter Meeting there will be two different times for Table Talk. These are times for you to visit at your table and get to know one another better. There will be questions, direction, and a focus to the discussions.
  2. If you really want to commit to a group, join a monthly MasterMind We will offer two levels covering Emerging/Professional Speakers and another group consisting of CSP/CPAEs. These groups are intended to help you hold yourself and your partners accountable for the actions committed to make.
  3. If you want to be Intentional about moving past what COVID-19 has done to your business then the next step is to join the NSA NT Speaker Forum. Meet monthly with some of the best minds in the business that will help you navigate your way to doing business now.
  4. We were asked to offer more intimate meetings. We elected to meet in member’s living rooms addressing current, relevant issues that currently affect our members. Thus, Fireside Chats were born. These intimate conversations will be open to 20 participants per event will be held quarterly.
  5. Want to connect deeper with some of your NSA NT peers? Then volunteer to spend some time giving at our Community Events. 4 times this year, we will go out and represent NSA NT and give of our most valuable asset – our time. Experience true fun with friends and give. It is a great expression of love.
  6. We will bring back Speaker Applause. A business-based acknowledgment for moving forward in your business.

If you have ever been part of a small group or MasterMind you know you will build strong relationships and accountability that could last for years to come, if you are committed and Intentional.

One last note before we close out. “Thank You” for the renewals we have for 2020-21. Remember if you have not yet renewed, please take advantage of the $150 Savings that will expire on August 15, 2020. The All-Access Pass gives you all Chapter Meetings and Labs virtually and much more.

Keep in mind you can earn $$ for your referrals, ask about the Ambassador Program.

We are building a year to remember!

Virtual Showtime Tips

Tip 1: The show goes on no matter what happens! Have you thought of pre-recording your virtual speech in case the internet is disrupted? When the internet returns, then at the end of your speech, jump in with live Q&A. No one will know the difference; it shows how creative you can be.

Tip 2: The 60 minute speech is now the new 30 minutes. “Shorter is Sweeter”. Please keep this in mind when presenting to a virtual audience; their attention spans have so many distractions vying for their attention. So keep them engaged and excited wanting more.

Betty E. Garrett, CMP, President of Garrett Speakers International, has been active in the meetings industry for four decades!. She is an author, speaker and consultant helping many speakers gain momentum on the speaking circuit!
