A Note from Your President

It seemed a simple task. Check the Google Machine. Spring is about to be sprung, but when exactly does that happen in 2020? Google says March 19th, but also March 20th. It turns out that the astronomical first day of Spring actually occurs at 11:50 PM EDT, which is 10:50 PM Real Time, on March 19th. Technically both dates work because March 20th is the first full day of Spring. But, let’s go with the 19th because it does arrive then and that’s how the Old Farmer’s Almanac (founded in 1792) states it. This is precisely the moment in the Northern Hemisphere when the Sun crosses the equator and days and nights are equal in hours.

This tidbit of information aroused curiosity about how your energy seems to accelerate as you emerge from Winter to Spring. Perhaps it’s related to the earth’s orbit changing its orientation which causes the earth’s axis to point in a different direction. As you experience your first Spring in the new decade, what direction are you seeking for your speaking business? What’s pulling you, re-orienting you, to imagine new possibilities for you and your work? Are you oriented, positioned to reach your full potential?

Our March speaker, Al Walker, CSP CPAE, will demonstrate and educate with real life examples from his keynote that can elevate your presentations. Al and our own Gary Rifkin, CSP and Cavett Award Winner, will then deconstruct the keynote offering learning opportunities for each of us. What take-aways will you apply to align yourself with the shifting orbit of the speaking business? Things change. Constantly. What are you doing to reposition your work to ensure your success with old and new clients?

Another repositioning possibility, one which causes many speakers a tad bit of angst, will be tackled with gusto by Dave Hill in his March Lab. His focus on humor and making your audiences laugh will not only be a treat – and fun – it will offer concrete steps to add a much-needed dimension to our presentations. Humor not your thing? Maybe it’s time to rethink that!

March in NSA North Texas is the place to be for those of you willing to step outside your normal orbit, experience a new gravitational pull and launch yourself and your career into areas you may never have imagined.

Imagine your potential,

Nancy Bartlett, CSP

Key Takeaways:

  • Learn the 5 things needed to think big and live large

March Lab

Use Funny Stories in Speeches & Presentations? You Have to Be Kidding! Learn the step-by-step process to

develop and deliver hilarious stories…while laughing!

facilitated by Dave Hill

Wednesday, March 25 / 6:30pm-9:30pm

Do you know how to hit your audiences’ funny bone? Audiences love to laugh. In the March NSA-NT lab, Dave Hill will teach you how to bring smiles from your speeches. Labs are learning workshops designed to provide “hands on” opportunities.  Less formal than the chapter meetings, they allow attendees to gather together to network and learn from the evening’s speaker on topics about the professional speaking business.

YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO:

  • Find your own funny stories
  • Get your audience to erupt into laughter with trigger words
  • Maximize the impact of humor through the power of the pause
  • Use the humor rule-of-three to create funny material
  • Embellish to maximize the audience experience
