Nancy Bartlett, 2019-2020 NSA North Texas President

A Note from Your President

February is the month we pause to reflect on our history as a Chapter by honoring those who have donated their time and devoted their energies to serve as our past Chapter Presidents. As we arrive at the halfway point of the current Chapter year, it’s appropriate to take stock of how we’re continuing those legacies. I want you to be aware of the actions your Board and Leadership Team members have taken to ensure that the hard work of those before us continues, and that those efforts will enhance the work of future Boards. Of course we’ve had our monthly Chapter meetings featuring highly successful CPAEs and CSP speakers, including a panel of our very own members discussing how to stay relevant in a changing economy. Some other Board actions and areas of focus to date include:

  • An audit of our finances which indicates we’re in good financial shape. It also noted some areas we need to tighten up in terms of best practice policies and procedures.
  • A policy and procedure committee has been appointed to look at those items, as well as all policies that may need updating. While these are not glamorous tasks, they are important to ensure our Chapter is operating effectively. Candace Fitzpatrick, Russ Riddle and Tim Marvel are serving on this committee for all of us.
  • A Task Force headed by our Director of Technology, Diana Gats, includes Chris Price, Susan Reid and Arlene Gale. They are bringing us up to date and enhancing our technology tools and processes.
  • A Chapter Survey to listen to your individual perspectives as to how we can best meet the overall needs of our members.
  • A Silent Auction was offered in December to benefit the NSA Foundation and our Chapter. Many of you donated items for bid and many others of you walked away with those items by winning those bids. As a result, we raised $2,660! $1,330 will go directly to the Foundation and $1,330 will directly benefit our Chapter.
  • A Chapter Holiday Party was also held in December, and many of our gifted members shared their talents with us. Great company, lots of fun and delicious food!
  • Academy co-deans Niki McCuistion and Jim Pancero have developed an expanded and in-depth learning experience for Academy participants this year. Bruce Arfsten, Summer Jelinek and Derrich Phillips support the Academy team and are helping to drive its success. Of course there are many of our seasoned pros who have volunteered to be Academy Faculty this year, and we are thankful for all of them!
  • Our labs have been an on-going success with a wide-ranging group of speakers and relevant topics. Peggy Edge leads that effort for the Chapter as she has done for the past 5 years!
  • A Chapter Special Event with Karen McCullough on January 21st offered great learning, tips, templates and tools on how to write a killer keynote.

And that’s just the first half of the year. We have five months to come!

It’s also a February tradition for us to have our NSA President as our monthly speaker, and Anna Liotta will be sharing her wisdom as to how we can identify our generational blind spots, and adapt our marketing strategies to effectively connect with each generation. This information applies to many aspects of our lives.

It’s easy for each of us to see things from our own unique perspective and perhaps miss or misinterpret those who see and experience the world differently from us. It’s important not to be dismissive of those different perspectives and approaches. Imagine a world where we want to listen to people with whom we may disagree simply to better understand them and their perspective!

It’s a New Decade. What’s your potential going forward?

Imagine your potential,

Nancy Bartlett, CSP

NSA-NT February Chapter Meeting with
Anna Liotta, CSP

Saturday, February 8, 2020 / 9:00am-noon

What’s Stopping Millennials, Gen Xers or Boomers from Hiring You and What to Do About It

See Video!

Anna Liotta, CSPAt present, the workforce is 29% Boomers, 23% Gen-Xers, and 45% Millennials. Bad news: what captivates one group is turning off another. Worse news: you can’t just target the final decision-makers with your marketing. During the sales process you–or maybe only your website–will touch all three generations. How do you adapt your marketing and sales pitches, so they are effective regardless of who is receiving them?

In this fast-paced, action-focused session you will learn:

  • Your own generational blind spots that are sabotaging making a connection with older or younger clients
  • The one piece of research you must do before talking to a decision maker
  • How to accommodate contradictory needs of different generations in one sales pitch
  • How to update your visuals, websites, interactive activities, and even your CRMs so they get your message across to all generations

This is a must-attend session for speakers of all generations–well, only if you want to close more business.
