A Note from Your President

What a difference a month makes in a time of coronavirus, confusion and conflicting information. What an opportunity to reimagine, repurpose and rethink your speaking business! Vince Poscente, Michael Hoffman, Niki McCuistion and Jim Pancero graciously agreed to respond to a few questions to help you stay focused on your business’s health in order to keep moving forward during a down economy. Whether you choose to become more adept technologically, write a book that you’ve been thinking about, develop new programs/topics, or update current content, there are a variety of options each of us can select to build our businesses. You also may decide that this is the perfect time to get more creative at home: reorganize, clean out the clutter, try new recipes. The point is: you get to decide the best way to respond to a challenging environment that has placed real restraints on our lives as we knew them just a few weeks ago.

Interestingly, we’ve had speakers this Chapter year who have been preparing us for these uncertain times. When we had a speaker cancel at the last minute due to hospitalization, we quickly called upon some of our members to participate in a panel discussion: “How to Recession Proof Your Business”. We followed that the next month with our speaker, Aldonna Ambler, sharing ideas about developing partnerships and sponsorships with organizations to grow your business. And, we had Beth Ziesenis educate us on a variety of apps and technology tools to help us be more efficient and technologically savvy. All of those topics are vitally important to us in today’s climate.

Some of our other speakers addressed reinventing yourself, including taking your career in a completely new direction. Just last month at our March meeting, Al Walker took us on a journey to think Bigger about our lives and businesses in order to make them more meaningful. We then deconstructed the first part of his presentation to gain deeper insights into the subtleties of a highly impactful keynote. Many participants said they had key insights into how they can rework and enhance their content. Now is a great time to do that.

Your NSA North Texas Board wants to help you stay connected, and we will continue to provide content that will keep all of us focused on the speaking business. We’ll just be doing that in a different format until we can have in-person meetings going forward. I encourage you to check out our website and Facebook page from time to time as those will be two of the avenues we will use to post the most up-to-date information about our events.

Above all, please do everything in your power to take care of yourself and those whom you cherish. If ever there was a time for accountability, both personally and professionally, this is it.
