About Niki McCuistion, CSP:

Member of NSA since 1983. President elect- San Diego chapter, President NTSA chapter in 1990, First recipient of Charbonneau award, First woman NSA Voices of Experience Chair, served as co- chair Speakers academy and Forum several times.

What audiences you speak for?

Primarily C-Suite- in finance and nonprofit.

What led you to this career?

Strong sales background- , owner of a real estate franchise, led to speaking/ coaching sales people. Pres/CEO of a nonprofit led to speaking, writing and coaching about and in- in the nonprofit arena.

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?

Biting my tongue- and learning more about technology- from how Linkedin to Instagram works so I may more effectively use it.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?

FOCUS. I’m diligent about setting goals and deadlines and making myself meet them. At the end of the day I see how productive I’ve been or not- and adjust accordingly. And I journal- it’s my accountability go to.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

The late Thom Norman, CPAE, one of the founders of NSA, was my mentor. He hired me for a training assignment many years ago- when I was brand new to speaking and taught me how to listen to feedback, and adjust accordingly.

What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?

As many of us have- I tried to be all things to all groups, speak on everything- the flavor or book of the month. I learned to focus and pick a lane and immerse myself in learning all I could about that lane- what it takes to attain transformational leadership that builds sustainable results,

What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?

Another hat I wear is as Executive Producer/ Producer of the McCuistion Tv program, now on N Texas PBS for 33 years, itself a strong accomplishment-. The Program has won many awards. As the producer of that program, I was asked – to produce a documentary on 9/11 and terrorism. This 2 year journey led me to Iraq, Saudi,- all over Asia and the Middle East- recording, interviewing ad putting a doc together. Some real challenging and “scary” moments.

What being a member of NSA-NT means to you (testimonial)

Overall NSA is my go to source for learning and deep fellowship. The NSANT chapter has helped me grow as a person , and as a speaker. It is a joy being part of this chapter and donating time and energy to helping our chapter grow and flourish.

Something personal you want us to know- can be about family, a vacation, a favorite food- anything you care to share.

My favorite hobbies- food and travel, led to a sojourn with The Royal Chef- Darren McGrady- former head chef to Queen Elizabeth. We met up in Bologna and cooked our way down the Amalfi Coast, learning, eating as we went. Did you know you can buy a bottle of balsamic vinegar- for $750? and its’ a small bottle at that!!!! And no I did not.
