About Tim Marvel, CSP

  • Most Current Past President of National Speakers Association – North Texas Chapter 2020-21
  • Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) 2017
  • Chapter President’s Award winner 2019
  • Zig Ziglar Member of the Year 2018

My background includes more than 40 years managing, training, and consulting in the Automotive and Retail Industries.

In 2019 Simply Smart Training was co-founded with Partner, Mark R. Herold. We developed software which bridges the gap between in-person learning and eLearning using a virtual aspect for added accountability. The video assessment tool can replace any LMS and add onboarding, accountability, and ROI measurements.

What audiences you speak for?

Business to business with a focus on training and development.

What led you to this career?

It has been an evolution over time from traveling and training/consulting around the country and spending the majority of my time on the road to wanting to spend more time with my wife, changing companies and going out on my own.

NSA helped me understand the need to be different.  It was knowing the need to differentiate myself from all the other trainers out there that lead to create training software. Pick a lane…

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?

Marketing-what I understand that we can have the best product, but if it is not marketed well, it may never get off the ground. In contrast if you have an average product marketed well will outsell the superior product.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?

Start early and prepare well in advance.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

The first time I read Charles Swindoll’s Attitude is when everything began to change for me.

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think, say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company… a church… a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.  We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes”

What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?

My mind and thoughts were all wrong. Mindset and what we tell ourselves, the limits we shackle ourselves with. What you tell yourself is more important than anyone else in the room, what you believe is how far you can go. It all starts with your thoughts. For years I didn’t think I was good enough, smart enough, or deserved success. I was wrong.

What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?

There are plenty but leaving the comforts of a corporate level position and having success with my own creation, bringing my thoughts together to create a software training tool that could impact the training industry is great.

What being a member of NSA-NT means to you?

I love the people, if you don’t like the people why would you stay? They are giving, caring and the majority will help you along the way.

Something personal you want us to know- can be about family, a vacation, a favorite food- anything you care to share.

My wife is one of the most amazing people you will ever meet, just talk to her for a few minutes and you will agree. I am so grateful for everything we have together.
