A Note from Your President

Hello NSA North Texas!

July is our annual “Chapter holiday” as we make our leadership transition, and encourage participation in the annual Convention of the National Speakers Association (@NSASpeaker).

Led this year by recent Chapter guests Brian Walter, CSP, CPAE (@TheBrianWalter) and Tami Evans (@_Tami_Evans), Influence 2015 in Washington, DC (July 18-21) was an amazing experience with over 1700 participants from NSA and other organizations in the Global Speakers Federation (@GSFLive).

As a Chapter, we were well represented. We had 40 people (not including family members!) at Influence 2015, which is our largest participation ever! And several Chapter members served in various roles to help make it a wonderful experience.

For those of you who attended Influence 2015, I hope the week had a strong positive impact for your business and personal life. I enjoyed being a part of the experience with all of you, and I feel inspired to embrace the opportunities of the coming year. For continuing education, we have purchased the Convention recordings and in the next several weeks they will be made available to All-Access Pass holders in the Member Content area at Speaker.org.

Our Chapter theme for the 2015-16 Year is Your Best Year Yet. In that spirit, we intend to continue our momentum of energy, warmth, and value – with great opportunities to engage and connect. I look forward to our shared experiences, and the positive developments I anticipate for each of you in the upcoming year.

To me, Your Best Year Yet doesn’t set the expectation that everything goes perfectly. Life is full of wins and setbacks of all shapes and sizes. For me, this year’s theme is more about how we see the future, which dictates how we handle what life brings our way. As honorary Chapter President and 2001 Cavett Award winner Zig Ziglar, CPAE (@TheZigZiglar) often quoted from Dr. John Maxwell (@JohnCMaxwell) – “When you have hope in the future, there is power in the present.”

You can expect me to give my best in service to our great NSA North Texas Chapter, and on behalf of your Board and Key Coordinators, I invite you to fully engage as we continue our journey together in the amazing business of professional speaking.

In closing, I ask – What will you do to help make this Your Best Year Yet?

To your continued Success and Happiness,

you, the speaker – Yeah, what Fripp says …

by Dave Lieber, CSP

Few speakers are better at social media than former NSA national president Patricia Fripp.

Her tweets and postings are short, sweet and spot-on.

One of my recent favorites:

@PFripp “As a #professional #speaker, your goal is to be remembered, repeated, retweeted, and rebooked.”

Sage advice. I made a list of to-do reminders to help me achieve these for the second half of 2015. Feel free to steal.

Get REMEMBERED

– Wow audiences with stories

– Customize introductions whenever possible

– Definitely customize talk with info & stories relating to their needs

Get REPEATED

– Make stories so true-to-life and funny that audiences repeat them later to others as they would a TV show

– Use a “phrase that pays” or something similar that hooks people like a good hit song tune

– Repeat in different ways what I want repeated to help them

Get RETWEETED

– Be original

– Be funny

– Be timely (what’s trending?)

Get REBOOKED

– If speech is going well, hint to audiences that you can come back for another – so they ask organizers, not you.

– Have a second program as good as the first

– Remember to tell the host you’d like to come back and follow up with hand-written note.

Note to self: Remembered, repeated, retweeted, rebooked. Do it right, and I can earn a living at this
